Cavity drain membranes offer a great Type C internal solution. They are applied to the inner face of a basement wall or floor and help channel water to a designated location in the basement, usually a pumping station. The product is commonly used on newbuild and existing buildings, and both on commercial and domestic solutions.
The system is taped together with specialist sealants and usually includes basedrain channels to help move the water at the wall/floor junction.
The system will lead to a method of drainage, which is usually a dedicated pumping system.
The system also incorporates insulation as well as inspection ports. Together the solution should comply with BS8102:2009. All designs should be completed by a Certified Surveyor In Structural Waterproofing, commonly know as CSSW.
Octopus Waterproofing have extensive experience in installing cavity drain membrane systems utilising market leading products such as Newton 508 and Newton 520 products.
In most basement waterproofing solutions, cavity drain membrane forms one line of defence against water ingress. It is common to include a second line of defence in the form of Type A protection (typically an external membrane), or a Type B protection (typically a structurally integral solution).
