Vaulted basements present a unique challenge in waterproofing as both the walls and the ceilings can be expected to make water. They need a careful system of waterproofing using specialist techniques with Cavity Drainage Membrane to ensure that all water is collected and moved to the channels and pumping system contained within the floor slab.
Vaulted basements often require waterproofing works to bring them up to standard that is needed to allow them to be used as Grade 3 environment for habitable space (BS8102:2009).
Vaulted basements are often lined with Cavity Drain Membrane, leading to a drainage channels and under-floor pumping systems to handle residual water entering the building. These systems need to be carefully designed to ensure they can handle water flow.
